HOW IT WORKS
Disclaimer: Very basic description of pinterest ahead, if you have been pinning since 1952 feel free to skip “how it works”.
Pinterest is an AWESOME tool for you to plan your wedding. If you don’t have it you definitely need to at least try it. Basically, you browse other users’ boards that they have created and see what you would like for your own wedding. You then “pin” the stuff you like to your own boards which organizes and categorizes your ideas for your wedding. Additionally with all those pins they also come with comments, and links to websites which include tips and/or instructions on how to create / build / incorporate those ideas into your wedding.
You can add your bridesmaids and family too to your wedding boards! How fun! You guys can interact go through ideas for bridal party dresses together without even shopping yet! It’s definitely Fun!
Let us tell you, there seems to be endless wedding boards on pinterest and you can spend hours at night, while your in bed, pinning ideas, styles, flowers, dresses, hairstyles, and much more.

TIPS FOR USING PINTEREST FOR YOUR WEDDING
If you have been pinning a while you know that you have to be very specific or you will run the risk of being overwhelmed. There is soo much to pin, so many ideas, so many ways to make your wedding that much better, you have to be specific and narrow down all those ideas. Don’t use wedding gown in the search field, use something like cream long (short, form fitting or whatever) wedding gown. This will give you pretty close to what you are look for.
Details, details, details. Pinterest is excellent for the gowns, flowers, food, and even mens formal outfits, but the personalized things such as invitations, decor, guests table gifts, is what really will make your wedding stand out and unique.
One of the best things you can do is search for specific wedding types: stuff like, rustic, elegant, romantic, DIY, desert, snowy followed by wedding will give you a whole slew of ideas. A lot of them will actually be from real weddings which were pinned to to pinterest.
Definitely look at the websites each individual pins send you to. It may provide a whole bunch of information you need.
INTEREST IS GREAT BUT…
Pinterest is awesome! It helps you get idea’s for your perfect wedding but keep in mind a lot of those pictures you pin can be either 1.) really extravagant and also out of budget 2.) circumstance depended 3.) completely staged (think stock pictures) or 4.) very time dependent.
Lets talk about the photography aspect of pinterest, since we are photographers here. 🙂
We encourage brides to add us to a pinterest board so we can see what they are looking for. We ALWAYS tell our brides that we will try our best to get some of them. Keep in mind the wedding day is super fast paced and sometimes there just isn’t enough time to set up 3 different lights, find the perfect backdrop and take multiple pictures adjusting lights, camera settings and every aspect of the picture to get it perfect. As much as we want to get the pictures you want we also want you to enjoy your day. 🙂

Just keep in mind your wedding photographer may not have the necessary equipment or time to make a picture look as good as some of the ones you pick out. Some of the pictures on pinterest are also luck, or dependent on circumstances, having a veil being blown in the breeze won’t happen if there is no breeze at the time. You get the point.
Keep in mind that those pictures on pinterest may not be realistic for your wedding and don’t over burden your photographer with ideas, this could actually make your photographer nervous and he or she may miss a important part of the wedding that they usually get otherwise. A couple ideas (maybe 2 or 3) for the photographer is just perfect.
Most of all its about you two getting married, use pinterest for inspiration but don’t use it to dictate your wedding.
Do you have any other tips that we didn’t mention? Or need help getting started? Write us a comment we would love to help out!
